She performs every operation herself and sees medical weight loss patients monthly at Karas Weight Loss & Wellness, a physician-led private practice, which is a different arrangement from the hospital programs across Northeast Ohio.

Board-certified general surgeon, fellowship-trained in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, with 9 years spent building bariatric programs from the ground up before opening this practice.
She performs the full surgical spectrum, from sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass to revisional surgery and incisionless endoscopic procedures, and she is the only surgeon north of Columbus offering bariatric surgery with same-day discharge in an ambulatory surgery center.
Her medical weight loss patients see her monthly, and that visit is not a weigh-in. Obesity affects every organ system, so the work is screening for sleep apnea, checking for fatty liver disease, following heart, cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar, and asking about mental health, which is usually the part nobody in the process has raised before.
She will also tell patients when a procedure is wrong for them. Three categories of bariatric patient are not sent home the same day, and she says so at the first visit rather than the third.

When you give somebody permission to permanently change your body, you are trusting a person rather than a building. A large program can be full of excellent surgeons and still not be able to give you that. She hears some version of that sentence far more often than you would expect, and it is the reason this practice exists in the form it does.
The Care Team
Medical weight loss patients see more than a surgeon. These visits are scheduled into the program rather than handed to you as referrals to chase down yourself.
Nutrition education
Monthly nutrition visits covering basic and advanced education, screening for disordered eating patterns, a personalized diet plan, and re-evaluation as your body composition changes. Available to existing and transferring patients at $65 per visit.
Health coaching
Twice monthly coaching to identify the specific barrier in front of you and put the diet, exercise, behavioral and lifestyle changes in place. Also offered as six-session individual or small group blocks.
Physical therapy
An in-office physical assessment reviewed by a physical therapist, who writes your Physical Activity and Exercise Prescription and reassesses it every three months.
Mental health
Assessment and treatment through two telehealth psychiatric providers, for the habits, stress and patterns that sit behind weight regain. Built into the program rather than left for you to arrange.
